From sizzling debates to inspirational success stories, here are the shows to listen to this summer

According to the New York Times, we've officially reached peak podcast. So much so that here are now upward of 700,000 of them, according to the podcast production and hosting service Blubrry, with between 2,000 and 3,000 new shows launching each month

With so many options available, we're able to hear stories and connect with like-minded people from the most expansive to the smallest of niches. While the construction podcast space is predominantly features men, there are some compelling female-led shows that shine through. Read on to find one that suits your experiences or provide some solace during your commute to work.

The Constructrr

Constructrr is an uplifting podcast that spotlights and gives a voice to companies and individuals fostering empowerment and inclusivity. The show is hosted by Brittanie Campbell-Turner, construction project manager and business consultant. Honest, inspiring and insightful, she admits that "I don’t have all the answers, but I’m happy to share what I learn."

Remodel Your Life

Host Camille Finan shares stories of inspiring women working in the construction and design trades. Her 35 years experience as a carpenter gives her a unique insight into the sector, with her goal being to provide insight into what it's like being a woman in the trades. Remodel Your Life goes beyond the limits of a podcast by providing scholarships, training and content to break barriers for girls and women entering the trades.

Part of the National Association of Black Women in Construction, this podcast addresses the unique challenges of black women in the industry. Championing and empowering women to their full potential, the show features challenging discussions, career-boosting insights and motivational success stories. 

The Black Urbanist Radio Show

The Black Urbanist is the brainchild of Kristen E. Jeffers, a black queer cis Southern woman and a true 'multi-hyphener'. She is an Urban planner - author - freelance writer - public speaker -  advocate. Her podcast is part of her multimedia platform, representing her thoughts on design, urban planning, transportation, architecture and life as black woman in the modern world, and brings in other voices who have opinions on spaces and places throughout the Black/African Diaspora.  

DnA: Design and Architecture

In this podcast, host Frances Anderton narrates one of Los Angele's most exciting chapters in architectural history. The weekly radio show is broadcasted on KCRW NPR station show in Los Angeles, making challenging topics in design and architecture accessible and entertaining to a wider audience.  

Design Voice

Hosted by architect Catherine Meng, The Design Voice Podcast "seeks to elevate and amplify those voices of women in the architecture, engineering, and construction professions." Each episode features honest conversations with self-identifying women who shape the built environment, unique takes on the state of the professions, stories of career journeys, and more. By telling their stories, this podcast hopes to serve as a source of education, inspiration and empowerment.
